What is this "Run of the Dead"?

The Run is part of a 5-day Celebration of the Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, in Southwest Detroit.  It is a holiday celebrated mainly in Mexico, and by people of Mexican heritage living in the United States and Canada.  The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember the relatives and loved ones who have passed away.  Traditions include building private altars (ofrendas) honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.  Traditions also include visiting graves with these items as gifts.  The Day is a Celebration of the lives of those we love, and a commitment to never forget them.

Start/Finish:  Both races begin at Patton Park, located at 2301 Woodmere St
Detroit, MI 48209 at 9AM. 

Packet Pick-up:  Packet Pick-up is on Race day only at Patton Park- the Start/Finish site of the race.  We open Pick-up (and onsite registration if you want to bring a friend) at 7:30 AM

Parking: Parking is convienent and free at the Run of the Dead!  Patton Park Recreation Facility is allowing us to use their lot for the event.  The lot is steps away from the start and finish of the race.

T-shirts:  If you have not emailed your T-shirt size, please do so ASAP to events@southwestdetroit.com.  We will have a variety of sizes available on-site, but to ensure we have enough advanced notice helps.  The design is awesome- I think you will be very pleased.

Awards:  Awards will be presented to the top male and top female finishers of each race. Please send your age on race day information to events@southwestdetroit.com, or be sure to let us know at packet pick-up.  Age group awards for top male and female finishers will also be given in the following categories:

• 14-20
• 21-30
• 31-40
• 51-60
• 61-70

Course Maps: Maps for both the 10k and 5K will be emailed to registered runners by October 28.  Maps will also be in your race packets.  Course will be well-marked!
